Weisse Eins Project Diary

August 15, 2008

White 1:
The motor rebuild is progressing very slowly. I urge all of our members to contact Vintage V-12's in Tehachapi, California, and urge them to work on our motor. I think we all want to hear it run!
The wing rebuild was stalled because of staff vacations. Hopefully we can recapture the momentum.
The fuselage rebuild has been stalled in order to copy a very rare D-9 waffenhaube on alimited time loan.
The tail section however, has been making great progress at GossHawk. The vertical fin cap should be installed soon, and the skins are being riveted in place. This will be followed by the tailwheel and control system items and the control surfaces.

Black 3:
Work has progressed with the installation of the cockpit placards which really look great!
The cowl panels are being installed, however, per the usual we have once again run into HUGE obstacles from the prior work done in Texas. The panels which have been provided are not fitting very well, and require some significant rework.

White 1
:
Thank you to all who have joined and donated. The money helps hugely!!!!! Please send more. We need it badly. It is the limiting factor to seeing a flying FW 190 anytime soon.

Work on White 1 has continued to move forward. We are finishing rebuild on the prop pitch drive unit, with help from the timely work of our translator. The prop pitch governor is next. we actually have a few brand new factory units from which to choose. The motor wiring harness is under rebuild with help from a fellow in Belgium who blessed us with plenty of pics. Thanks Tom! The generator harness is nearly complete, simply waiting for wiring label tags. The uplocks need parts back from plating and installation of the covers and bezels.
Thermostat still needs tested in oil bath. Oil hoses and tubing and clips/brackets/dilution valve are being addressed. Fuel filters are waiting for parts from plater. Rudder pedals have been painted and reassembled, and we are assembling the straps. We are having leather dust boots for the master cylinders remade. The stencil for the canopy armor plate is being made. Several parts for the fuselage and tail section are at heat treat.
The wing assembly has begun. We are locating the stringers on the laid out skins/doublers, and have fabricated the left trailing edge which was placebo from TAM days. Next we must make the aft main spar web, of which we have a nonairworthy example. Then the canopy frame rails will be remade. Our parts do not remain airworthy. We are also having the main elevator pushrods remade..a very difficult part. The aileron bellcranks have been sent out for remake, and we must ourselves make the steel eyelets, and installation tooling for the aileron pushrods. Motor cooling baffle stampings should be completed soon, and ready for assembly. I am informed by our welder Jerome, that the cowl flaps drive units should be completed very soon.

Black 3:
We have been promised the elevator differential unit from Gelb 16, but it has never arrived.
Six full days have been spent installing missing rivets (work we inherited from TAM) in the wheel wells. We are replating the cowling attaching brackets following fabrication and repairs to the originals. The bracket attaching hardware has arrived from the machinist so very soon we can begin installation of the cowlings. Next we will install the lower motor support, main radio rack and radios, instruments, and placards. The top aft waffenhaube also requires rebuild as it was damaged in the 1943 crash. We must also paint and install the rudder pedals and rebuilt extremely rare early style master cylinders. Hopefully we will also soon have time to install the canopy crank assembly.

White 1
:
Another month has flown by, and things are starting to heat up here.

After many, many requests, we now have a NEW FULL COLOR T-SHIRT in the Gift Shop. All the guys at the shop like it a lot. I hope you do too, so you will buy a lot of them. We need the money to pay the bills.

We are finishing the very last parts before we literally have all the parts of the wing as if it were a giant FW 190 wing kit. Exciting! Next we will begin to assemble the skin sections with their ribs and stringers, as they did originally.
The tail section has made slow progress last month at GossHawk because they had to focus on the Oscar project. We did however get our MW 50 tank mount completed. Thanks Steve!
The engine builder has finally picked up the last five cylinders from their final honing operation, and they should be installed any day now. I will post some pics of the power case with all the cylinders mounted as soon as they are available! If you want to see them soon, let Mike know at Vintage V-12's. After that it will be final assembly.
We are waiting for cowling brackets to be made. Our first attempt made by an outside company turned out all wrong. So we will try them again. Again more time and money.

We are also waiting on hardware from the machinist to install on our rebuilt oil cooler and armor ring assembly before we ship it out to the engine builder.
We are also in the final assembly of the uplocks (plating), fuel filters (screw), DSG 3, engine wiring harness, generator wiring harness.
We have also completed rebuild of the prop pitch drive motor, and now are working on the mechanical assembly.
The brake master cylinders have also been disassembled for inspection and overhaul.
We are also getting ready to press out the cover for the aileron pushrod exit on top of the wing. We had one perfect original, and needed the other side.
The blown canopy is also in final assembly, and is waiting on the headrest pad, and one more small rubber anti chafe strip we are having made right now.

Finally, again I have to "PASS THE HAT" to all who want to see this aircarft flying sooner.
I am doing all I can, and really need you help. Please visit the gift shop, or open your hearts and wallets to donate.
We also need a volunteer Tour Guide at the Museum. Any volunteers?

Black 3:
Work continues on the wheel wells of the aircraft where we are installing hundreds of missing rivets which were never installed by Texas Air Museum. This will take many weeks of work.
We are also waiting on hardware and brackets to mount the air intake assemblies.
The original lift tube cover recovered by Tor Olsen, was recently restored and installed in place of the replica part.
Soon we will begin to install more instruments in the side consoles.

White 1
:

The past few months have been very exciting!
Steady progress continues. We are now down to just five parts to be remade for the entire wing, before it is a giant kit, and just needs assembled! We are starting the assembly of the first wing skin section for the right wing. This is a subassembly consisting of the skins, doublers, ribs and stringers. Basically one quarter of a wing. I hope to have pics of this in the next weeks.
The tail section build continues at GossHawk. I hope this will be completed in the next month or two.
The motor rebuild is progressing with the last of the cylinders promised to be installed by Christmas. We are still having cooling baffle stampings made. A very expensive process.
Does anyone care to pony up about 30,000.00? Completion of the top baffles is one of the major steps to get the motor running.
More small parts come back from the various shops weekly, and I am sure we will be completed with the small part duplication phase in the next month. This will be a huge milestone, and should free up money for assembly labor. That is our biggest expense in this process.
The one biggest factor holding us back in money. Like everything in the world it is limited by money. I am putting everything into this, so if you want to see this airplane done sooner, please everyone pile on and donate. This project is open to the public, and I need your help.

Black 3:

We are closing in on the completion in the next year. We have installed the wing root gun bay doors, and are working on the trim. We are waiting on bracket fabrication to be able to install the cowlings. One cowl panel may need significant work which will slow us down considerably. The last set of exhaust pipes (lower) should be installed in the next few weeks. We will then focus on installing some details, such as the canopy crank, instruments for side consoles, etc. All in all I expect the remaining work to take at least the next year. While Black 3 is on display, our visitors may for an additional donation sit in the aircraft. I will point out that this is the only Museum in the World in which this opportunity is available. Be sure to visit and sit in this aircraft while she is here, and open to the public.
I have done so myself, and it is an amazing experience!

White 1: We believe we have acquired one original photo of Weisse Eins from one of the original JG 5 pilots. See it in our Member's Section along with more pics from JG 5, previously unpublished anywhere else.
As you can see on the front page, our extremely rare original blown canopy is nearly completely restored, sans polster (headrest). We are making this next. The completed canopy should be gorgeous and will be one of only two genuine examples in the World. The most complete being mounted on White 7 at NASM Dulles.
The last four cylinders still await machining and installation for the big BMW 801. We are making parts for the cowl panels. The air intake stampings are completed at no small cost, and we have made a fixture for welding together the two stamped halves. The tail section has made further progress under the skilled hands of the great folks at GossHawk. The wing....we are still making parts, but we hope to finally begin to assemble the skins, stringers and ribs for each of the wing sections starting in the next week!!!
The only factor which slows us is the amount of money we can raise. Please open your hearts and make your tax deductible contribution toward preserving this aircraft for all to enjoy. Thanks to all who have joined and rejoined this past month. How we would all like to hear that BMW 801 roar!

Black 3
The wing root gun cover hatches have been problematic as has been most all of the work which has been done at TAM. Their installation has taken nearly a week of labor to get right.
We have installed the rear wing fillets, and will soon start on the front. Cowl panel installation awaits restoration of mounting brackets. Soon we will start to install more cockpit items.
Visit our museum and have your picture taken in the cockpit of Black 3.

White 1
The whole tail section from the rear bulhead back is now being assembled at GossHawk.
We are still in the final stages of stamping the top cooling baffle parts for the BMW 801. It has been frankly very expensive. Your donations are hugely appreciated!!!
The cowl flaps drive is in final assembly. The fuel filters are in rebuild. The DSG3 synchro unit housings are near completion of rebuild, and will be soon installed on the BMW 801.
The fuel selector valves and fuel shut off valve rebuilds have been completed.
We are still making parts for the wing. So many parts in that wing! I hope in the New year to start assembly. We are remaking the Trager ring hydraulic fluid filters.
We are also remaking some of the cowl panel attaching brackets. The air intake stampings are being welded together. The final four cylinders should soon be installed on the 801.
The oil lines are also now being sorted and processed. All oil and fuel line fittings have been made in bulk. The phenolic material for the drop tank mounting points in the bottom of fuselage has also been sourced.
The F style canopy is nearing completion with the installation of antenna attachment and headrest soon.

Black 3
Great progress is now visible. We are installing the inboard MG 151 compartment covers, and the rear wing to fuselage fairings. We are also beginning the installation of the cowlings.
Lower gear doors will be fabricated in the next months.
We will soon begin installing more items in the cockpit.

TF-51 "Missy"
The fuselage is now ready for the installation of the TF parts. More pics soon.
We are still sourcing some parts for the rebuild. A cuff bladed prop assembly has been located.
Our wing build date nears. We have been on the waiting list for three years!
Your donations are much appreciated.

Black 3 is progressing alongside White 1 in the space we rent in the new Warbird Adventures hangar at Kissimmee Gateway Airport, Kissimmee, Florida. We are developing a much better museum display of our many rare artifacts, centered around the legendary Focke Wulf 190, and the public is invited to tour our restoration facility and Museum located adjacent to the site of the old Tom Reilly's Flying Tigers Warbird Museum. Many of the rare artifacts can only be found in our Museum. Proceeds from the tours go directly to the restoration.

Progress on Black 3: We are now ready to attempt to mate the fuselage and wing, and then install the main landing gear. Work has been extremely slow and expensive as we have suffered a huge amount of inherited vice from prior shops' work.

Progress on White 1: We are moving forward on the engine build at Vintage V-12's. Cylinders are being installed. The cyliner top cooling baffles have had to be remade and there are at least 15 separate stampings! Est. cost for the tops alone is about 60,000.00 USD when the stampings and labor to assemble them are added! On top of this, the oil tank has to be repaired, and we estimate this will cost at least another 40,000.00 USD because of its very complex structure and deep draw "three hit" stampings. That being stated, nearly all internal components are ready for installation. We have been making wing ribs and are ready to begin the reassembly of the wing. The fuselage is on hold pending stampings for the fuel tank compartment, but the complete tail section is now under final assembly at GossHawk.

August 12, 2006
Work continues on various parts of White 1. The oil tank has been digitized and we are making tooling to stamp out new sections. The cooling baffle stampings also progress, but this has been very costly. Special thanks to our stamper for making them somewhat more affordable!!!!! Props to R&D. The BMW 801 rebuild is waiting on the processing of cylinders for installation. A test stand is being fabricated, and the test apparatus for the Kommandogerat is being modified. Finally we have the information for the quick disconnect for the starter brush withdrawal cable. Thanks to the IWM and to Ben!!!! We have all the skins cut for White 1 wing and fuselage. We are now processing the fuel tank bay stampings and canopy rails/longerons.
The wing of White 1 is being disassembled and we have found nearly all parts on the left side to be original! Many skins and doublers are original throughout! On the right side there are fewer original parts, as expected from the crash damage during the war.
Assembly of the wing will begin as soon as possible. The fuselage assembly at GossHawk will proceed as soon as we have all the parts ready for them to assemble.
The firewall and other parts are waiting in the fixture.
I would like to also take this opportunity to "pass the hat." We have all the parts, and if you want to see a flying FW 190 which will be open to the public, please donate or join up as a member. Buy some t shirts. I really recommend the book by Forrest Clark. He was there. We are only limited by money. Please help.

Regarding Black 3, Tor Olsen in Norway has found an oil tank for Black 3, but we do not yet have it here to install. Thank you, Tor. Once the tank arrives we can fit the cowl panels. We have the side consoles assembled, and have pretty much assembled the BMW 801 until we get the remaining parts from the crash of Black 3. We will soon move the airframe across the street to a new hanger, where we will begin the assembly of the major components. We still have to make the wing fillets, and fit the cowlings, but barring any major surprises things will go smoothly, I hope.
We were supposed to have our vertical fin top from JME in Great Britain many months ago, but it is still not here....

May 1, 2006

We begin May adding to our list of supporters the Nephew of Cecil Ceasar. Ceasar gave his life fighting in combat against Orlowski, in the last battle for White 1. Good sir, it is an honor to know you are behind our progress.

The buildup of the original BMW 801 continues to make progress. The Kommandogerat is passing all its bench testing with flying colors.

We have located fresh original cylinder barrels to replace the ones damaged by corrosion during years of storage. Cooling baffles for the cylinder tops are being remanufactured at White 1 for both front and rear rows. (These will also be used on Black 3.) The oil tank stampings are proceeding. We have now completed the Pendelventil rebuild and the thermostat rebuild. The thermostat is now ready for thermal testing to confirm its function at the proper temperatures.

Cowling components are also being restamped as needed. The F-8 Waffenhaube is completely rebuilt and we will soon post a few pics.

GossHawk has begun work on the Fuselage of White 1. White 1 will supply all the skins and many of the internal components, including the firewall and fuel compartment stampings, to be used by GossHawk. We can also provide these for any other customers. GossHawk is also soon to complete the rebuild of the tail section, pending our completion of the rear bulkhead, Spant 15. Both Spant 14 and 15 were provided by White 1.

We hope to begin the wing rebuild in the next six months at the White 1 shop.

Work also progresses on parts received on loan from the tremendous generosity of Jerry Yagen at the Fighter Factory. Thank you to all at the Fighter Factory!!!!!!
I highly recommend taking a day or two to visit this amazing Museum! They even have a running restored Jeep!

White 1 has also received a complete original D-9 waffenhaube from the Luftwaffe Museum for restoration. Look for pics of this in progress.

White 1 has also recently acquired two complete original extremely rare Jumo 213 motors out of a D-9. It is hoped that we will be able to have one flying motor with some spares for use in our upcoming D-9 project.

Our ground equipment collection has had a significant addition with the arrival of our completely functional Anlasswagen...the only running example in the world. Now we are seeking the complete Heisgeschirr for the BMW 801. For this unit we are offerring a significant REWARD.

The restoration of Black 3 also proceeds well with the placement of the side consoles and throttle in the cockpit this month, as well as the installation of several accessories in the back of the BMW 801. All cylinders are installed, and we await the arrival of the magneto, prop governor, and prop motor from the crash site to install in their original location over sixty years later! Black 3 will also soon receive her cowlings as soon as the oil tank is available for installation. Look for some pics of Black 3 to be posted soon, in our Member's Section.

June 2005

The White 1 Foundation was recently able to acquire on loan all the remaining parts needed to complete the restoration of White 1. As a result, it is only a matter of time and money to restore and assemble the parts and aircraft.
Now more than ever, we need your support! Please donate! Your tax deductible contribution will help return this beautiful machine to the skies much sooner!

May 2005

We are continuing to make slow but steady progress with the restoration of both the White 1 aircraft and the engine. The last major part which had been previously unaddressed has been crated and sent to the welder for repairs. Soon we will have a flightworthy oil tank!

After a full year and several vendors we have located the webbing for the fuel tank straps. The stitching is now in progress, and soon the straps will be completed.

The original lower instrument panel has been refinished and we are installing the small parts. The steel front top cowl is under rebuild. The wing root panels are under rebuild for both White 1 and Black 3. We have completed the flaps for Black 3. We hope by the end of the month to have the elevators and rudder covered completely for White 1. The covering process has been stalled by the need to manufacture the Martin wire clips. The wheels and brakes for White 1 are under rebuild. The wheels for Black 3 are completed. The horizontal stabilizer for White 1 has been closed up and we are only waiting on the custom remade 5mm nut plates. Center section components are being restored for both aircraft. The tail section for White 1 is in rebuild. We also have sourced the armored glass, as original. The top hatch for the radio compartment has been completed, as original. The generator will be reassembled in the next days and tested. Mnay small parts will be returning this month. Pics will be posted in the MEMBER'S SECTION. We are also researching the proper licenses for the canopy ejection system.

We also have acquired the tag and title to another FW 190!!!!! This one is an A-4 from JG 26. We have limited information on the aircraft, and would welcome any additional information.

Donated this month was a very rare Focke Wulf factory ID badge!!!! Look in our MEMBER'S SECTION for pics and the surprising story.

Thanks to everyone for their continued support. We are in the process of making membership even more satisfying for all our supporters. Also look for the new Shopping Cart system for the Remodeled Gift Shop coming this month.

To be sure, the work is only limited by funding. Your tax deductible donations will help us to move along faster, so if you want to see and hear this aircraft, please DONATE as much as you are able. The restoration is incredibly expensive, and to do it right, we need your help!

March 2005

Filming begins today at the White 1 Restoration shop, to document the trials and adventures of returning this rare and exciting aircraft to flight.

February 2005

Work is progressing on both White 1 and Black 3. We have just completed the flying set of elevators, firewall, and many more small parts for White 1. Rebuild of the magnificent BMW 801 is also moving along well. The oil cooler has been rebuilt and has passed all tests.
Also, the VDM prop rebuild has been completed by MT Propeller. Only the application of the stencils remains to be done.
We are still waiting for the remade Spant 14 in order to begin the rebuild of the fuselage in earnest.
In the meantime the vertical fin and top steel gun cowl panel are being rebuilt.

On Black 3, we have rebuilt the entire vertical fin, minus the early style cap. The horizontal stab has been test fitted, and the tail wheel and strut have been rebuilt and fitted. The seat has been rebuilt, and the left side console is in progress. Work has been done on the fuselage and we are ready to repaint the inside. We are also rebuilding the front panzerglass which had been damaged in storage some time ago in Norway. The static prop rebuild is beginning. We are still rebuilding cylinders for the 801 and await the powercase form the engine builder. The static trager ring is being rebuilt as well. The static starter is also completed, and we are working on the generator. The main landing gear are completed, as are the elevators and rudder.

November 10, 2004

Representatives of the White 1 Foundation were recently at the Garber Facility of the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution this week donating missing items for both the FW 190 F-8 on display at the new Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles Airport, and for the He 219.

July 20, 2004

The journey of Black 3 back to the US for static restoration at White 1 Foundation.

Royal Norwegian Air Force C-130 with the Representative of the Forsvarsmuseet Guttorm Fjeldstad, traveling on orders of NATO. Loading the C-130 in Norway was performed in an absolutely professional manner.
Virtually no damage occurred during the entire shipping of Black 3 and the BMW 801 G-2 motor.

July 7, 2004

The propeller blades are nearly completed. The flugellagerung and hub have passed all inspections. The oil cooler is nearing completion, and we are ready to begin rebuild of the oil tank.

The BMW 801 G is heading to the engine builder at this time. The new fuel injection pump is being checked for proper function. Spare crankshaft assemblies are being disassembled and checked.

The firewall steel is heading to the third heat treating facility for tempering and oil quenching.

The Spant 14 and 15 will be completed in three weeks.
All castings will be completed in the next few months.
The lower main gear doors are completed and the upper doors are in progress.
Cowling cable trigger snap swivels had to be remade and are nearly complete to allow cable assembly.

Fuel tank strap material is being custom reproduced.
The rebuilt starter is being reassembled. The flap motors are being reassembled.
The flaps are clecoed together until ready for final assembly with the wing.
Elevators are waiting for the stamped tips and rebuilt steel bearing cups.
The top engine cowl stampings are in progress.
As always, and more than ever your individual support is greatly needed and appreciated!

We are doing this restoration with no major sponsors..just the average person.
We receive no government funding.
Please help this Focke Wulf fly again! We need your donations.

July 7, 2004

The engine rebuild continues with the teardown of the crank assemblies from the other parts donor engines. All available flightworthy parts are being inventoried and placed in corrosion protected storage. The fuel injection pumps are being rebuilt. These were brand new units, but require disassembly and inspection after 60 years.

The propeller rebuild continues, and the metal blades are being made as you read this.
Each must be forged from aluminum.

Fuel tank straps are being remade. The hardware has been completed, but the material for the straps must be custom made, to get the correct color, weave, and dimensions, per original samples, one of which is on loan courtesy of the US Air Force Museum and NASM, Smithsonian Institute. Each will also bear the stenciled part number as original.

The schilds for the cockpit are underway. Each is available through White 1 to collectors. Each is an EXACT duplicate of an original. There are variations between the originals for each, in many cases, so the most typical or the most intact example has been chosen for duplication.

The elevator castings have been completed, and we are waiting for fresh stampings for the tips, as well as the steel bearing cups, which required a few repairs because of corrosion.

The flaps are clecoed together, waiting for completion of the wing.

The lower main landing gear doors are completed. Main landing gear are fully rebuilt, by a company who is a direct descendant of a company which rebuilt these aircraft during WW II! The ETC 501 fairing is nearly completed.

The starter motors are completely rebuilt and tested. Fuel pump rebuild is progressing.

The oil cooler rebuild continues. They had some internal corrosion.

Please keep watching the site for upcoming pictures!

Sept. 9, 2003

The White 1 Foundation was recently at the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles to supply a replacement wing tip light and lens for the FW 190 F8 now on display. The wingtip was accidentally damaged during the move of the aircraft from the Garber facility, and no replacement was available from museum stocks.

Previously, White 1 Foundation had contributed the rare drop tank rack and drop tank for the Bf 109 on display at NASM on the mall. These items have been conserved and will be installed at some time in the future.

The White 1 Foundation is honored to announce that we will complete the assembly of the FW 190 A3, Black 3, for static display in the Royal Norwegian Air Force Museum at Gardermoen, Norway.

In addition, White 1 Foundation is expecting the upcoming delivery of a rare BMW 801 D2 engine arriving from Europe. The engine is in excellent condition and nearly complete from firewall forward, as a true "power egg." We expect this will greatly accelerate our engine program, and hope to have the engine running within one year.

Finally, we would like to thank all people who have assisted the project with their time, and donations. We can not do this without you.

To be sure, we continue to need financial support. It is only a matter of time and money before our flying memorial can take to the skies. The more donations we receive, the faster the work may proceed. Please donate. We need your support.

May 5, 2003

A lot has been happening with White 1 in the recent months.

Most importantly, our parts wanted list has nearly disappeared! Very few parts remain to be located! Anyone finding a part which we still need from the time of this posting will receive a free membership, new style T shirt, and hat.

Our next container is leaving Germany as this is posted. This will bring our fuselage fixture and we can move forward with the rebuild of the fuselage soon. Stampings have been sourced from a drop hammer company, and will start arriving soon. The roll forming company manufacturing our stringers/longerons is now back in operation following satisfactory resolution of a labor dispute. We are promised those in the next month. The foundry will be busy in the next months producing all castings for the control surfaces. Most originals had too much corrosion for safe operation. They will all be remade as original with part numbers. All will be supplied with certificates.

Our first proof tire arrived from Dunlop recently. It had passed safety tests with flying colors, so to say. The mold requires a few tweaks to duplicate the original lettering..which is a must given the historical significance of this aircraft.

Our canopy plexiglass did arrive from LP Aero, who did a beautiful job!
We will also be supplying this blown canopy plexiglass to the Yellow 10 project at GossHawk.

Our main landing gear are nearly completely rebuilt according to the folks at Gomolzig. The rebuild of the energy storage units (kraftspeicher) progresses with the machining on the attaching parts at each end underway.

The cowl flaps rebuild got put on hold while the shop doing our work concentrated on a new Corvette Z06 which is presently dominating its racing class. Soon we will have more to post of the cowl flaps.

MT Propeller is continuing with the prop rebuild.

Our engine teardown and parts inventory continues. We have many great parts for the big 801 on the shelf, and will continue to conserve all the rare parts we have received over the past two years. We will post some of our engine inventory in the next months.
Fuel injectors are being remanufactured at the time of this posting. Our engine rebuild will commence near the end of this year.

Many rubber products have been remade as original, and many remain to be posted, including all of the canopy weatherstrips.

Fuel cells are under construction, and all of the retaining hardware is nearly complete.
Our electrical system has nearly a complete inventory, with rebuild and "blueprinting" of the stab trim motor completed, and of the starter and landing gear motors and drives well in progress. Jeff Nelson of Custom Connections has nearly a complete set of wires with tags ready to install.

Many of the smaller components are outsourced to GossHawk Unlimited. The guys there, under the direction of Dave Goss, are doing a beautiful job, and we look forward to the next batch of items to arrive soon. These will be posted as soon as they arrive.
Translation of documents continues, and should be completed in the next year.
Reconstruction of the parachute seat pack pillow (Ruckenkissen) and
control lock strap continues.

Finally, I would like to thank all who have helped us in the past year by
joining as members, or outright donating to the project. It all adds up. Thank you all. Please also tell your friends about us. Frankly, we need more money to help with the tremendous costs associated with the work involved. Remember that donations are tax deductible in the US.

I would also like to ask if anyone would volunteer to place one of our coinboxes at their business, and forward the proceeds to the Foundation every month or so? It will cost you only an envelope, check, and stamp. Our goal is to raise enough with the coin boxes to cover the cost of the utilities at the shop/museum each month.

I also would like to challenge everyone to help us locate major sponsorship. We could really use the help of sponsors to complete the project, and I believe their interest in the preservation of aviation history will project on them favorably. There is no larger venue for advertising than airshows.

With your help we will have Weisse Eins in the air!

July 7, 2002

New information has finally made it possible to better determine the true colors of White 1. We will be updating our logos, and soon adding full color T shirts featuring White 1 to the for sale section.

We also discovered the identity of another former pilot of White 1. Please keep watching the history section for our update soon.

We now have six machinists working on parts. Presently we are sourcing out our bubble canopy plexiglass, MG151/20 recoil dampeners, spinner, landing gear uplocks, top cowl panel, and fuselage hatches. We are also having the linkages for the cowl flaps mechanism remade, as original. We also are having the tail skins restamped, as original. The electrical system wire strap retainer buttons are being recast with manufacturer logo as original. Many other plastic parts are being recast, and rubber parts are being remade as original, including the weatherstrips at all locations, bumpers at bottom edge of flaps and side consoles, bearing dust seals, canopy plexiglass seal, and dust boot at the control column base. We had these made at another firm, but they were not of correct material, and did not fit...at all. Aileron and flap castings are being remade. Flap stampings are complete. We had hoped to have the under fuselage panel complete, but we discovered the steel reinforcing parts were not up to spec, and had to be remade. Our seat is nearly completed, and features the preservation of original markings which were found upon it.

Our last container brought in some valuable additions to the collection. We now have an original ETC 504 center rack for the F or D model FW 190, which I believe is the only one known to exist, as well as jacks for the aircraft. Please watch for pics soon. We also have a complete portalkrane, with an original assembly manual. Please keep watching for pics of this as well. We will keep posting pics of completed items, possible in part by your support. Thank you all, who have contributed. Contributions are tax deductible, and we will take even one dollar, so do not hesitate! We also have added a parts sponsor section as a way to involve anyone who wants to be a part of this project in some way. Pick a part, and be its sponsor. When you see White 1 fly, you will be able to say, "I helped with that project." We do need sponsors, and that will help us get to that first engine run sooner.

We also will be running ads in various journals, so keep watching. And if you are in the Orlando, Florida area, stop in and see us! We are five miles from Disney!

The engine mount bolts have been remade as original. We have also located most of the bearings for the airframe. The MG151 feed chutes have been remade. The MW50 behalter is nearly complete, and the umlenkhebel is being recast (see pic of this item in parts wanted list). Watch for pics of the feed and ejector chutes soon. Spars are being machined. Seat adjuster rails are at the machine shop. BMW 801 valve cover retainer bolt/washer/stud sets are almost complete, and the oil drain tube hardware is complete. Wiring harness retainer clips are nearly complete-all 3 sizes. We are also sourcing the retainer strap white rubber and buttons. We are also obtaining the proper stamps for the aluminum wiring harness tags. We have located many interesting artifacts.

Please continue to watch the site for pictures of these items, or stop by the shop/museum and see them in person. Thank you to all who have bought T shirts. Hats will be available soon! Thank you also to our sponsors, donors, and to our most excellent webmaster!

White 1 Foundation will also offer memberships soon, including stickers, free admission to the museum, and quarterly newsletter. Members are also permitted to stop in to our facilities and participate with the project. Memberships are 40.00 per year.

Here are photos of some beautiful new parts. First is the Zusatzbehalter. They were made in both rubber, as well as the metal version which you see here. This was a reservoir for the Methanol/Water anti-detonation emergency boost mixture.

Next, we have the Hebelwelle mit Lagerung. It is the bellcrank assembly which controls the rudder. This is an exact duplicate of an original, and was fabricated at GossHawk Unltd. by the "Yellow 10" crew of Dave Goss. A beautiful piece of work.

We are presently rebuilding many small components for the cockpit, under fuselage panel, canopy, engine, and mounts for the MG 151 have been recast. the magnesium casting for the canopy is being remade, exactly as original. We have also been cleaning and sorting some of the thousands of 801 parts at the Largo shop. We will post some pics soon.

Also recently completed is the rudder bellcrank assembly. We will post pics of this item soon. We will soon be receiving many key components for the rebuild including rare radio parts, ground equipment including fuel drums, aircraft jack stands and engine hoist, and many very rare engine parts. Pictures of all these items will be posted soon.

Nearly all of our parts wanted list has been located. We will soon update our wanted list. Thank you to all for your help finding these items!

We continue to need donors and/or sponsors. The rebuild can go much faster, and is only limited by the available funds. I would like to also thank Crown Bank for their help with the project. Need financing? Call Crown Bank.
