Focke Wulf Fw 190F-8 W.Nr. 931 862 "Weiße 1"
Camouflage and Markings - a Reconstruction

By Kjetil Aakra 1 & Andres Brekken 2

Introduction

This is an attempt to reconstruct the most likely appearance of Focke-Wulf Fw 190F-8, W. Nr 931 862, currently under restoration by the White1 Foundation in Florida, USA at the time of its final mission on February 9th 1945. As no photographs of White 1 in Luftwaffe service are known to exist, this reconstruction must of necessity rely on comparison with relevant planes from the same production block, assesment of their camouflage and careful consideration of the airframe's unit history and indications of possible changes in markings and camouflage. As such, a definitive picture of what White 1 actually looked like will probably never be available, unless someone can produce a service photograph. The following account is based on information from the last German pilot to fly White 1, photographs taken at the crash site some time after its demise and various information from written sources, German documents and contemporary sources (see references).
