Technical aspects of W. Nr. 931 862
A few technical features
relevant to White 1 shold be mentioned at this point, including:
1. Drop tank
- White 1 did in all probabillity carry a 300 l. drop tank
of unknown style as all Fw 190s from Herdla documented by
photographs did have drop tank or at least racks for them
(these were also retrofitted to the earlier A-2 and A-3
series in use by 9. Staffel). Three styles seems to have
been used, two of the standard aluminium type with either
pointed or rounded end and the much rarer 200 l. cylindrical
tank originally conceived for the Bf 109G-12 (only seen
on a single Fw 190 at Herdla, so far)
2. Radio gear - FuG 16ZY loop antenna (no Morane
antenna, in contrast to most A-8s), FuG 25 IFF carried
3. Canopy - the canopy was probably of the flat type
(Halvor Sperbund pers. comm.), although both types have
been seen on planes in the 931xxx W. Nr. block and they
were readily interchangable.
4. Wings - the wings did not feature ETC 50 or 71
racks but was rather configured as "universal"
wings with provision for fitting MG 151s or MK 108s in the
mid-wing position. The upper surface bulges allowing installation
of MK 108s were present (Figure 23). The ventral cannon
bay cover was of the standard F-8 type (figure 24).
